Danforth, Bald & Co. formed in 1850 from Danforth & Hufty; part became Danforth Wright & Co. in 1853; part became Bald, Cousland & Co. in 1853. They were known for their artistic and beautiful vignettes that graced the banknotes at the time. The printer was one of seven printers that merged to become the American Bank Note Company. This essay is the second die state of this design, with the letters U and S either side of the 3c denomination.
