Catskill & New York Steamboat Company (Limited) of Catskill, N. Y. Stock issued on May 10, 1888. Company was incorporated in 1888. Certificate No. 14 was issued to Weston L. Snyder for 10 shares of capital stock ($100 per share). Company capital was $200,000. Raised embossed company seal lower left. Original ink signatures of company president George H. Snyder and treasurer W. J. Hughes.

The Catskill & New York Steamboat Company owned and operated passenger steamboats on the Hudson River between New York City and Catskill, New York (Greene County), a distance of about 120 miles; the company operated from the late 1800s until the late 1920s. The company identified their passenger steamboats as “The Catskill & New York Evening Line”, and they owned the steamboats Onteora, Kaaterskill, and Clermont, among others. The Catskill & New York Steamboat Company advertised their river trips leaving New York City at 6 P. M. traveling upriver, and leaving Catskill at 7 P. M. each evening traveling downriver.

Also within the company’s advertisements were details of accommodations (and their distances from river landings) in towns along the Hudson River, including: Tannersville, Cairo, Purling, Oak Hill, Sunside, Acra, Freehold, East Durham, Greenville, Norton Hill, South Durham, Cornwallville, East Windham, Union Society, Hensonville, Big Hollow, Windham, Catskill, Malden, Kaaterskill, Leeds, South Cairo, Gayhead, Kiskatom, Haines Falls, Palenville, and Coxsackie. The Steamboat Onteora was one of the company’s first to be put into service and was as a medium size steamboat that was considered a fast vessel with luxury passenger accommodations.
