Size of engraving: 1.25″ x 2.25″, die sunk area: 4″ x 5″, card: 5.75″ x 7.75″. Date lightly penciled in at lower right: March 15’79. Some light foxing, water stain.


Lorenzo J. Hatch was a very talented engraver and artist who had an unusual career in the bank-note business. He trained at the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and subsequently was employed at several private bank-note companies in the U.S. before going to China in 1908 to establish the first modern Chinese currency-printing bureau.
