Rare issued blue color. Patent No. 53,723 was granted William Wyckoff on April 3, 1866His patent called for coating the stamp paper with zinc oxide. This would form a barrier between the paper and the ink received during the printing process. Wyckoff’s concept produced a very sharp image for the finished product.
