$15.00

Dr. James Henry McLean, physician and wholesale druggist of St. Louis, introduced McLean’s Volcanic Oil Liniment in 1854. He subsequently marketed McLean’s Celebrated Strengthening Cordial and Blood Purifier; McLean’s Liver and Kidney Balm; McLean’s Cough and Lung Healing Globules; and McLean’s Celebrated Catarrh Snuff. In 1864 Dr. Addison G. Bragg joined the firm with a product that he had developed called Mexican Mustang Liniment; this nostrum was eventually sold to Demas Barnes. By 1864, J. H. McLean owned a 5-story laboratory in St. Louis, and the firm remained active at least until 1883.
