This 19th-century steel engraving presents a classical personification of Liberty, depicted as a woman in a profile view facing left. She is shown wearing a Phrygian cap, a historical symbol of freedom, alongside a draped garment that evokes Greco-Roman antiquity. The die proof on india paper was produced by the American Bank Note Co. NY, whose mark appears at the bottom along with the die number C-540.
